Cognitive Biases & Decision Making
Decision making and problem solving are considered the most important business skills of future, especially when artificial intelligence and machine learning are expected to replace may jobs.
Yet, until recently, this area didn't get too much scientific attention. Only in last few decades, extensive research in the field of psychology and neuroscience have revealed that human brain is simply not made for today's modern world.
During most of the 200,000 years of human evolution, we lived in a very dangerous world, where surviving and procreation were our main concerns and decision challenges. As a result our brain have certain the inbuilt tendencies to process information in ways that are most suitable for survival in a dangerous environment with extremely scarce foods and other resources.
However, modern human lives in a very different environment, and as a result most of those inbuilt mechanisms of our brains are of not much use today. Moreover, those inbuilt mechanisms, they are called cognitive biases, create problems for modern decision making.
Making objective decisions in today's world, especially in business, involves understanding, detecting and overcoming those cognitive biases and blind-spots while making decisions.
